Terraviewer executable
TrakEdit executable (not currently available)

TrakEdit's GIS import functionality requires SHAPELIB.DLL

Requires DirectX9, which is part of Windows XP, or available separately for download.

For the newest version, you might find you need MFC71.DLL and/or MSVCR71.DLL and MSVCP71.DLL; some people seem to already have them.

For older versions, you might find you need MFC70.DLL and/or MSVCR70.DLL as well; some people seem to already have it.

TerraViewer v0.52 Copyright 2004, David Maymudes

TerraViewer lets you view Terraserver's USGS aerial photos.

TrakEdit is an editor for PRT guideway layouts, but let's skip that for now.

You'll have more fun with a broadband connection. The "New" command on the "File" menu lets you jump to a new location; you can enter UTM coordinates, a longitude/latitude, or the name of a city & state.

Right now it always starts in SeaTac, and you can move around most of the southern Puget Sound area. It uses the 2002 "urban areas" imagery, which is supposedly going to be available for 100+ cities by the end of this year.

Commands:
arrows: scroll
+: zoom in (the = key also works)
-: zoom out

control-click to zoom in
shift-click to zoom out
or drag the map around with the mouse

You can switch to the old black&white aerial photos if necessary with a command on the "view" menu.
Terraviewer can also show you topographic maps, use the View command to switch to them, or use the '[' key to "show more topo", ']' to "show less topo".

All downloaded terrain is kept in c:\terraincache. if your C drive is read-only or doesn't have space, bad things will probably happen.

Has been tested on five or ten computers. It requires DirectX9, which is part of base WindowsXP. It's possible it requires a 3D-capable video card, but most are these days.

Inspired by JDM Cox's USAPhotoMaps.
